What the research says.

Dual-language immersion is one of the most studied models in education. Here is some of the evidence families ask us about most.

Benefits of the bilingual brain

Learning languages is not only useful for communication — it shapes the brain’s adaptability and functionality.

The astounding effectiveness of dual language education

Lead researchers Virginia Thomas and Wayne Collier, after nearly two decades of program evaluation across 23 school districts in 15 states, describe being “truly amazed at the elevated student outcomes resulting from participation in dual language programs.”

Dual language & academics

By middle school, students from both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking homes generally do as well as or better on English standardized tests than peers in English-only classrooms (Lindholm-Leary & Genesee, 2014). Students from English-speaking homes may see a temporary lag in English reading and writing, but it typically disappears within a year of English language arts instruction beginning (Genesee, 1987).
